Well after much decision on whether to get Civ IV or Age of Empires III, I decided to go with Civilization IV.
To begin, I wasn't aware of the fact that the game was actually turn-based, but that didn't hinder me from enjoying myself. The longevity of the game is awesome. I hate good games that are too short. But I guess you could do a quick game if you want, but where's the fun in that?
The controls are pretty easy to get used to, especially if you have played an RTS in the last decade or two. One thing that I didn't like was the inability to cycle through different kinds of classes. I can't even count the number of times I needed a worker and couldn't find one. It may have that ability in there, but I couldn't figure it out and it wasn't stated in the tutorial.
The one thing that frustrated the hell out of me was the battle system. It was so unrealistic. How in the world are you going to tell me that some musketloader is going to shoot down my Apache? WTF?!
But other than that it is a fun game. I don't think I would like AoEIII more, but it would be different. Overall I would give it a 3 1/2 star rating out of 5.
No worries. But I would suggest getting the expansions if you end up liking it. They do add some more civilizations with each one and tweak the game play a bit.
